Germany has a great history of famous artists like Lucas Cranach and Albrecht Dürer who were the native of this country. They serve as the backbone of German artistic culture, and art has always been as important to Germans as, say broadband service or even electricity.
In 19th century, Germany was the main focus in Europe in the field of European Romanticism and the artists like Caspar David Friedrich, Carl Spitzweg and Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein were the main figures in this field..
First thirty years of the starting 20th century, visual art of Germany became famous in the whole world. The expressionist like Franz Marc, Ernst Ludwig Kirchnur, Emil Nolde, Max Beckmann, German Grosz and Otto Dix were the main expressionists of the world at that time. Berlin was well known for its arts around the world. Now cities like Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt are become famous for the arts after the world war IInd and after the joining of Germany to the present time, they become famous around the world.
If we talk about German Performing arts then the theaters of Germany are one of the best and unique in the world. We can share our ideas and expressions and debates through these theaters. Local administrations of the states are responsible for financial and structural support.
The best and well known theater of the country is "Three Category House". Performing arts like drama, opera, dance and others are organized here. The famous plays of the German theaters are Faust I by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s dream, Hamlet by Shakespeare. Operas like The Magic Flue, The Marriage of Figaro etc. are very famous there. Nutcracker and Swan Lake are most frequent classical ballets of Germany.
There are more than sixty festivals. Some of them are the Bayreuther Festspiele and the Theater Meeting in Berlin which are the venues for opera and best plays of the country.
Literature of Germany:
The best literature giants of Germany are Goethe, Heine, Mann and Schiller. After world war IInd, a group of authors made a group “Group-47” school which showed the way for student movement of 1968. Some of the post world war literatures were awarded noble prizes like Gunter Grass, who was the eighth author from Germany. Die Blechtronmel (The Tin Drum) and Die Rattin (The Rat) were the best literatrures of him at that time and the best sellers. The novels Im Krebsgang and Mein Jahrhundert are collections of small stories by him. Hans Magnus Enzensberger is a famous writer and philosopher who write socio-critical novels.
Christa Wolf is a well known critical novelist of East Germany who established the concept of “subjectivity and authenticity".
After Hitler's National Socialist Regime, various Wassily Kandinsky, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Beckmann and Emil Nolde and many Expressionists were the outstanding models of the newly evolving art scene.
